No. 2 and 2005 Miami finalist Rafael Nadal endured two rain delays en route to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Nicolas Kiefer on Sunday in the Sony Ericsson Open. The 21-year-old Spaniard reached the fourth round (or better) for the fourth time in five years.
Nadal converted three of four break points and never faced a break point on his serve. The German only won 36 percent of his second serve points compared to Nadal's 67 percent.
"Well, it was not the best day (with the rain) because I was playing unbelievable in the beginning, you know, playing very well, hitting very well the ball, and playing almost perfect match, no?" said Nadal afterwards, "So I was very happy about my victory. When I come back to the court the ball was a little bigger and slower, and it was a little bit more difficult for me. Anyway, I feel I played very complete match."

No. 15 seed and last year's finalist Guillermo Canas of Argentina posted a 7-6(6), 7-5 win over No. 17 Fernando Gonzalez of Chile in two hours and 16 minutes in a battle between two of the top three South American players on the ATP circuit.
Canas saved two first set points after trailing 6-4 in the tie-break. He closed out the one hour and 17 minute set by winning the final four points. In the second set, Gonzalez broke to take a 3-2 lead and served at 5-4 to even the match but was broken. Canas broke again in the 12th game to earn his second victory in as many meetings against Gonzalez.
No. 16 Paul-Henri Mathieu (pictured) advanced to the fourth round for the second year in a row with a 7-6(1), 7-5 win over No. 20 and 2003 finalist Carlos Moya. The Spaniard had won the last three meetings.
After both players held serve throughout the first set, Mathieu went up a break at 2-1 in the second set and served for the match at 5-4. But Moya broke for the first time in the next game to level the match. Mathieu then broke in the 11th game before serving it out. The 26-year-old Frenchman improved to 12-6 on the season and he will face Nadal.
No. 31 seed Igor Andreev eliminated South African qualifier Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4 in two hours and 21 minutes, to advance to the fourth round for the first time in Miami. He will take on Canas on Tuesday.
Andreev converted two of five break points while saving both break points he faced on his serve. The 21-year-old Anderson, who upset No. 3 and defending champion Novak Djokovic in the second round on Friday, only hit two aces and double-faulted five times.
